success story out of many......
HEG is one of the first few organisations
in the country to implement the concept
of multi-skilling. The objectives were:
1) Trained People would be able to perform
other related tasks.
2) Trained people would be able to work
in general shifts against absenteeism.
3) Trained people would be able to fill
the vacancies created because of attrition.
4) New recruits would be lesser required.
5) Trained people would be able to fill
up positions created on account of new
roles.
A
company-wide training need analysis
was conducted to reveal two intervention
areas - positive frame of
mind and
skill upgradation.
- CRISP
was identified by HEG because
of its expertise in industrial
automation .
-
HEG and CRISP had a brainstorming
session and a cover module
was given shape.
- The
training was titled as "
Technology Enrichment Program",
and was designed to last for
8 weeks for 12 participants.

- The
course contents included Mechanical
Maintenance, Basic Pneumatics, Hydraulics,
Electrical Maintenance, Logical structures,
Interpretation of Engineering, Time
& Motion study, Productivity,
Inspection and Quality control. Apart
from this, Behavioral science topics
included were Attitudinal development
and Communication skills.
- The
participants were sent to CRISP campus to
keep them in a learning environment away
from work place. Maximum hands-on-practice
was provided to them.

in Production and Quality consciousness
while minimising wastage and accidents.

The trained personnel exibited remarkable
improvement in their performance ;
the trained people were treated at
premium as compared with others. They
were assigned special responsibilities
& taskswith an increased pay packages
also increased because of their Productivity
improvements. They were involved in
important and crucial jobs.
- The
overall productivity of the industry
improved remakably.
MILEAGE:
- The
Quality circle of HEG has been invited to
Singapore to make a Presentation at an
International forum. Record co-ordination
and Synchronization has been achieved
between workers / supervisions and
Management overtime statistics have been
reduced from 14% to 2%.
- A
congenial atmosphere has been developed
between labour and Management.
- Today
HEG and CRISP are working together for all
such training requirements.
