MECHATRONICS AN OVERVIEW

Our next phase project on mechatronics has been approved from government of germany. The project will commence from mid- 2004.Under this facilities CRISP would set up labs to offer training and consultancy in Mechatronics. The present commercial environment is putting more demands on industries to rationalize their operations and to adopt best practices for improving productivity and therefore industries are now looking towards integrated automation solutions on technology front.

Modern automation technologies are becoming more complex and more sophisticated due to increasing interaction of mechanical systems, control technology, electrical systems ,computer and information technology. In order to properly operate and maintain the systems there is a demand of engineeres and technicians whose skill and knowledge make them capable of operating and communicating across different engineering disciplines and,by doing so,provides a link between those with more specialised skill. The industry makes engineers who have independent capability, multiple skills and cross system know-how to comprhend and tackle industrial problems.

One can get this multiskill advantage by an appropriate training in Mechatronics.

The word "Mechatronics" comes from a combination of Mechanical and electronics. It refers to a mutli-disciplined integrated approach in order to enhance productivity.

An acceptable explanation of the term Mechatronics is the intelligent integration of Mechanical engineerin with electronics Instrumentation and computer control in industrial automation to give improved performance and better value fro money.

Typical Competencies requires in Mechatronics Engineer

Applying skills and knowledge in mechanical engineering ,electrical engineering, control technology and information technology, combined with positive attitude. The systematic approach for training in Mechatronics will develop the skills to handle the job independently and with responsibility. It will also develop the skills to work in team effectively thus enhancing the co-operation and communication with other members and to organise and implement the projects succesfully.A good Mechatronics engineers should posses strong and technical skills and be able to :

  • Install mechanical components & assemblies of automation systems
  • Install electrical/electronics components and sub-assemblies
  • Integrate & test electrical, pneumatics and hydraulics control systems.
  • Measure ,test and modify system parameters
  • Program the Mechatronics systems
  • Install, commision and operate the integrated systems
  • Carry out troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of integrated systems
