HANDICRAFT DESIGN DEVELOPMENT CELL 

The handicraft design development cell is being set-up by under the aegis of Development Commissioner (Handicraft), Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India.

The handicraft cell’s main aim is to meet the following purpose:

  • Human Resource Development both primary basic level & at secondary advanced level

  • Provide innovations in design & product development.

  • Quality control

  • Research, Development and Information Provider

  • Technology transfer

Broad Objectives:

  • Training youth to become skilled and capable of developing handicrafts items

  • Further developing working artisans by enhance their skills by conducting workshops and training in identified craft in order to help the artisans to contribute in a better way in this sector and earn a better their livelihood over a period of time.

  • Developing basic entrepreneurial skills for trainees to establish small handicraft enterprises in cottage industries

  • Market Access initiatives in the area of handicrafts.

  • Act as a consulting centre to provide innovative designs in the area of craft 

Beneficiaries:

  1. Non-working people who have the aptitude and interest in this area.

  2. Working artisans/ Employees for skill enhancement development and who are deprived of any formal training.

  3. Those who wish to set-up a unit for self employment.

  4. Those who already have computer centre and wish to expand the scope of their business in designing (CAD) for handicraft.

  5. Institutions / agencies outside the state willing to impart training to their employees.

  6. Other developmental projects of institutions outside the country working in the area of Handicraft development.

Eligibility for trainees

  • No minimum formal educational qualification is necessary.

  • Candidates belonging to any part of the country, but preference will be given to the residents of Madhya Pradesh.

Activities

  1. Training

  • To provide training (short term & long term) for generating competent human Resource in the area of Handicraft Design in the state

  • To enable creation of cell employment opportunities and for the youth 

  • For skill upgradation of artisans & Manpower engaged production houses 

  • to improve quality and make production more viable and competition.

  1. Under the outreach activity

  • to make design and technology more accessible to different craft cluster in MP

  •  to conduct workshops in design intervention for SHGS / ARTISANS at the field level producing handicraft items.

  • Consultancy to artisans, entrepreneurs and exporters on design technology

  1. Market

  • The centre will also embark on promoting marketing activities by providing a market platform for producers / artisans and buyers / exporters of handicraft items.

  1. Research & Development 

  • Conduct need assessment surveys to understand the existing skills of artisans; identify need for training / workshops for skill upgradation and ; to provide inputs on developing innovations in design.

  • Provide quality input on Design Technology valued addition upgradation, quality of raw material, designs, packaging etc. to existing artisans to produce value added and quality products.

  • Information hub Collection, Documentation and dissemination of design, market information and various participants, Survey reports etc. at one place.

  • Act as a research development centre and an interface, between, the new entrants, artisans, NGOs and exports, and tourists.
